Whether its on stage, in the car, the shower or walking down the street, almost everyone loves to sing. Singing expresses emotions, tells stories and provides a sense of connection with other people across the world. It is for these reasons that so many people enjoy singing.
Music is a very strong part of our human identities. Every culture has music and singing styles that are unique. From the time that we are born we are surrounded by these songs. This music tells our vast histories. Stories about heartbreak, survival and humour provide a vehicle from which we learn about our ancestors. We want to feel like a part of a greater whole and singing provides for that need.
When we sing, we immediately engage muscles in our body that improve our breathing and posture. This in turn provides more oxygen to the essential parts of our body creating in us a better mood and more energy. The melody and rhythm of the song transport us momentarily from the drudgery of our daily lives.
