DO RE MI FA SO LA TI DO 🎶
Melodies could be tricky to sing correctly at times. Many musicians use a system called “solfege” to make the task of singing and understanding melodies easier. Solfege is also called “solfeggio” or “solfa” and it is a system where every note of a scale is given its own unique syllable and name, which is used to identify and sing that some note each time it appears.
- It is great for understanding relationships between notes in music.
- It helps you understand patterns in music. It trains your ears to understand patterns. The pattern in music you hear very often is so- do. It helps you identify notes very easily.
- Solfege gives you more balance when you sing and adlib.
- Solfege boosts your level of creativity in making melody, adlibing, composing music and song writing.
- “Do” is the home base note. More than 95% of songs end in do. It is a note that makes us feel or sense that a song is done.
- It helps you see sound or notes before it is even sung. It improves your sight reading skills.
- Solfege works wonders for transcribing music (writing down what you hear).
- Solfege tells you the key of any song. In most songs, the “do” is the key of the song.
- Solfege gives you the power and ability to recall melodies at will. You eliminate fumbling around your notes to get the right order or series of notes.
- Solfege helps you think faster in music and in getting your notes. For example, while it may take someone who doesn’t know solfege 3 minutes to figure out a note, it will take you just 3 seconds.
- Solfege greatly helps you in parts arrangement.
- Do is always the first note of the scale no matter the key. For instance, in Key C, Do means C, in Key F sharp Do means F sharp, in key G Do means G and so on. Once you know the solfege for a melody in any song, you can set any note as Do and reproduce the same melody in whatever key you want.
- In general solfege makes you a musical genius.
